Public Speaking & Appearances

I love giving talks! It’s one of my favourite things to do. I speak to groups of all sizes. Most of my presentations are in-person, but sometimes I do them on Zoom. I also speak on behalf of Jonathan Haidt's The Anxious Generation campaign.

Presentation Overview

My talks typically last between 45 to 60 minutes and include a PowerPoint presentation. They focus on:

  • The harms of excessive digital media use

  • An introduction to the universally relatable philosophy of "digital minimalism"

  • An overview of the 4 norms from The Anxious Generation and how to deal with collective action problems

  • Why we need to reclaim childhood, embrace risky play, and give kids more independence

  • Practical, evidence-based strategies for parents, teachers, and school administrators to curb tech use with children and adolescents

My approach is not just professional; it’s personal, too. I have 3 kids who range in age from elementary to high school, so I can relate to what parents are dealing with! My goal is always for audience members to leave feeling empowered and hopeful, armed with lots of tools and techniques that they can start to implement right away.

Each presentation concludes with a Q&A session that encourages engagement and discussion. Additionally, if in-person, I offer books for sale and invite attendees to connect with me one-on-one before and after the talks. I am happy to tailor presentations to whatever a school’s particular needs or interests might be.

My fee is on a sliding scale to promote accessibility. Please reach out to discuss your budget. Contact information is on my website.
