Love this retrospective. I relate and resonate so deeply, and have been thrusting your writing at everyone I can for years. I run a nature connection organization for teens, so it feels extra relevant. Congratulations on the new book! I look forward to reading.
Just pre-ordered your book through Indigo!! I absolutely LOVED your first book. Listened to the audiobook, requested the library buy it.....and proceeded to just go and buy it so I could reference it often. Can't wait to read the next book and love your substack.
Great to "meet" you, Katherine. I'm glad it's more than Jonathan Haidt doing this work — which is so important.
I feel fortunate that screens haven't been much of a thing in our house — although we do enjoy the occasional Bluey episode or the cartoons I grew up with in the 90s. My kids are happy to just build forts, play outside, do crafts, etc.
But this is not the case among some of our kids' friends, whose parents often let them sit on their phone, for instance. And then my kids want my phone or they sit and stare at their friend's parent's phone. I don't love it but don't feel like it's my place to say anything. But telling my kid not to, when that friend is his only friend there, is awkward as well. 🤷🏼♀️
Your insight into the effect of screen use on children is valuable.
In the early 80's I became aware of the fact that artificial food colours caused hyperactivity in my child. (Dr. Ben Feingold had written a book about this in 1974).
I still have trouble convincing some people of this fact!

That makes me so happy to hear! Thank you.
You're from Sowesto? I'm one province east, in Manitoba.
